ORTESOL derives from the national TESOL program. The purpose of ORTESOL is to support ELL students and teachers who are located in the state of Oregon. They offer valuable and informative sessions through their semi-annual workshops (one in the fall and another during spring). Its webpage has journal publications but teachers may get access to their monthly newsletter and articles with a membership. An annual membership rate for full-time teachers is $30, which also lowers the registration fee for their one-day professional development workshop opportunity. As a future, ESOL educator I would like to subscribe and attend their professional development workshops so that I may be up-to-date with the latest ELD strategies.
Colorin Colorado offers bilingual information, activities, advice, and resources for educators of English Language Learners. You may find things from ELL strategies and practices to ELL policy and research. Other examples of things you might find on this site are: classroom videos demonstrating ELL strategies, books for students to read, articles, and videos that provide ideas for using technology with ELLs. As a future bilingual teacher, I will place this website on my tool box for future learning and application of ELL instructional strategies.Benchmarks, Strategies and Resources for Teachers of English Language Learners has a search engine where teachers can find K-12 ESL proficiency benchmarks and get access to student writing samples with analysis. There are also videos of students engaging in the classroom with teacher commentaries on proficiency levels and benchmark analysis. Teachers can also access assessment tools and research topics related ESL. The student writing samples may be used in the classroom for students to analyze and practice giving peer review feedback on a writer’s workshop. The videos will be used to extend my knowledge on ELL strategies and get access to assessment tools. |
